Bhaang (Hemp Seeds) Chutney, Recipes of Kumaon, Uttrakhand

Fun Fact – While the seeds are borne on a plant known to be psychoactive, the Bhaang, (Hemp) seeds are not intoxicating.
Rather its’ more very nutritious as well as comforting.

What You’ll Need

  • Dry red chilli
  • Cumin
  • Hemp Seeds
  • Garlic Cloves
  • Chopped Mint Leaves
  • Chopped Coriander Leaves
  • Lemon Juice
  • Salt
  • Water, as necessary

How to Make It

Cooking Instructions

1. In a pan dry roast the red chilies & cumin seeds for 2mins.

2. Now, add the bhang seeds and dry roast them till they start making a popping sound and get a nutty taste.

3. Transfer to a grinding stone. You can use a grinder too if you do not have a grinding stone.

4. Add the remaining ingredients and grind to a thick paste.

5. Transfer to a glass jar. Refrigerate & serve.

This heavenly Uttarakhand food is a staple and served with every food at most of the occasions.
